When it comes to dropping everything in order to travel and see the world, you probably put obstacles in your own way. We’re all guilty of that.
Maybe you’ve told yourself the cost of traveling would be too high and it’s just a pipe dream, but with some careful planning, you could easily afford any upcoming trips you have in mind. It’s all about choosing the right timing and researching options.
Last Sunday was my husband Ty’s birthday, and since we happened to have a gift card for Choice Hotels, it seemed like the perfect time for a quick weekend getaway.

Book Your Room Wisely
Pigeon Forge, Sevierville, and Gatlinburg are brimming with accommodations, so don’t limit yourself. Although we had the rewards points for an upgraded stay at Choice Hotel, we often book the same little family-owned and operated motel my parents took me to when I was a kid. I’m fond of accommodations like the Maples Motor Inn because they offer flat rates, and when they’re posted on their website, you can see which weeks are going to cost more than others. This allows you to plan your getaway on the "off" weeks, when Pigeon Forge is going to be less crowded in general.
Pigeon Forge, Tennessee is known for being a family-friendly vacation destination, but it’s also a fun place for childfree couples like Ty and me. If you've ever been to Branson, it’s a lot like that – chock-full of live shows and attractions, including Dollywood, Dixie Stampede, and the Titanic Museum.
It’s a nostalgic slice of kitsch Americana that appeals to everyone’s inner child.
No matter your travel style, there's an overwhelming amount of things to do here, but that also means you can blow your vacation budget easily.
