Finding a Work-Life Balance While Traveling

Most people can forget about work during their annual vacations. Digital nomads, however, never really stop working, but they never really get off vacation, either.

The life of a digital nomad can be quite hectic, and finding a proper work-life balance is, therefore, extremely important.

I have been traveling and working for 5 years now, and I’m proud to have picked up a lot over the course of half a decade (damn, time moves quickly!). Here's some of the “wisdom” I've gained during that time.

How I Managed to Conquer My Fear

Over the last five years, my husband and I have been focused on working hard and travelling a lot.

For some reason, we keep getting drawn back to Southeast Asia, so I'm familiar with the cries of “big clothes for big ladies" and men massaging my feet in the ubiquitous foot massage places. Or being sat at the table with those sturdy wooden chairs. Been there, done that – and honestly, I'll probably do it all again in the future!

My Summer as a Madam

I never thought I would find myself living as a professional vagabond.

I went to college and had a pretty specific career plan, but in 2012 when I graduated, I was left with a degree and no prospects. After a few years of serving lattes and bussing tables, I was invited to spend a summer working in Alaska. Me, who thought she would never leave the Midwest. Me, who only had a little bit of travel experience and who hated being anywhere out of her comfort zone.

So . . . What is Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS)? 

It’s like having a tiny poltergeist in your body that knows all of your fears and can ruin your day at the drop of a hat, just to make your life a little more challenging.

In basic terms, PCOS is a hormonal disease that has been nicknamed “the Silent Killer” because it increases a woman’s risk of type 2 diabetes, insulin resistance, heart disease, obesity, and high blood pressure. Fun times!
